Kagome had made her mother’s favorite dish for dinner: a stew of meat, onions, carrots and tomatoes that went over Japanese rice.
She knew her mom had been upset that day, but the woman never burdened her children with her concerns. Kagome looked softly at mama Higurashi, sharing a knowing smile.
Halfway through their meal, a familiar figure dressed in red appeared at the kitchen door.
Before Inuyasha could open his mouth and hurry her to leave, Kagome invited him to eat.
The boy seemed uncertain for a moment, which she found very uncharacteristic of him.
“Sure”, he finally shrugged.
Later in her bedroom, he would whisper to her that his mother used to like that dish too.
She’d be astonished by the rare piece of information, but happy that her comfort food had comforted more than one person she loved.
